the brief
An upstairs hall bathroom in an older Arlington home: plain white square wall tile, a shower curtain on a rod, a frameless mirror and a sloped ceiling that made the room feel smaller than its footprint. The house has good bones — a six-over-six double-hung window that throws real light — and the homeowners wanted a bathroom with some conviction to it rather than another white box.

what we did
The room was taken back and rebuilt around a deep green marble-veined tile, run full height in the shower and wrapped onto the return wall. A frameless glass enclosure replaced the curtain, with brass shelf rails and brass fittings inside.
The fixtures are unlacquered brass throughout — shower valve, faucet, accessories — set against white walls so the green and the brass carry the room. A vintage-profile dark timber-framed mirror hangs over the sink with a black gooseneck sconce beside it, and a green glass flush-mount fixture picks the tile colour back up at the ceiling.
We kept what was worth keeping: the original window, and the sloped ceiling, which now reads as a feature of an older house rather than a defect.
