The Client's Challenge
This Alexandria homeowner had a condo that functioned fine on paper but felt dated in every room. The kitchen was the biggest pain point - dark, outdated cabinetry, worn countertops, and a layout that didn't make the most of the galley footprint. It was functional, but it didn't feel like home.
The bathrooms told a similar story. Builder-grade finishes, unremarkable tile, and lighting that did nothing for the space. The flooring throughout was mismatched and showing its age. And the paint - that flat, faded, can't-quite-name-the-color situation that accumulates over years of living in a place - needed to go entirely.
What the homeowner wanted wasn't a single-room fix. They wanted the whole unit to feel cohesive, intentional, and updated - without losing the functionality that makes a condo actually livable. Vale Construction handled the design alongside the build, which meant every decision (cabinet color, tile selection, floor pattern, fixture finish) was made as part of a unified vision rather than assembled room by room.

Kitchen:

The Renovation Process
With a whole-home scope, sequencing matters as much as execution. Vale worked through the project in phases - flooring and paint established the palette for everything else, so the kitchen and bathroom selections could respond to what was already in place rather than fight against it.
The kitchen was rebuilt around a two-tone design: matte black raised-panel uppers with tall pantry columns flanking the refrigerator, and white lower cabinets with black hardware throughout. Black countertops run the full length of both sides of the galley, creating a high-contrast look that reads as intentional rather than busy. A white penny tile backsplash adds texture without competing with the cabinet colors. New stainless appliances - including a French door refrigerator, range, over-range microwave, and dishwasher - were coordinated into the layout.
Herringbone hardwood flooring was installed throughout the main living areas and kitchen, replacing the previous floor and immediately unifying the space. The pattern adds visual interest underfoot without requiring anything else in the room to work harder.
Both bathrooms were fully gut-renovated. Tile, waterproofing, plumbing fixtures, vanities, mirrors, and lighting were all replaced. The design language across both bathrooms is consistent - large-format white marble-look tile on shower walls, hex mosaic tile on shower floors, brushed nickel fixtures, white shaker vanities with quartz countertops, and black-framed rounded mirrors with glass-cylinder vanity lighting. The result is a spa-adjacent feel that holds up in a condo setting without over-designing for the square footage.
Interior paint was refreshed throughout - clean, neutral tones that let the renovated spaces speak without competing.
